Almost Famous

One of the unexpected side benefits of friendship with Jenny was that when we lived in Dallas, whenever her sister-in-law, Libby, a gifted photographer, came into town from Seattle, she’d take pictures of the kids. She took pictures shortly after Søren was born,398288-0095.jpgand again after Rainer was born, mara 011_1.jpg and while the photos she’s taken remain among my favorites I have, I also have to note that I love her way of interacting with the kids, the way she makes the photo session fun and teases them into doing just waht she wants them to. So when she announced in her blog that she was coming to Portland I immediately called to ask if she would make time in her schedule to come do pictures with us again. She’s posted some of the results right here in her blog. Lovely, aren’t they?

These are the boys I remember! Golly Moses, I can’t believe how grown up they are. And I’m missing it! ugh. I mean, missing the day-to-day stuff. It makes me so sad.

And at the same time, looking at Libby’s photos makes me so happy because you are such a lovely family and I feel so lucky to be so close you. Thank you for posting these and for sending me that other link. The world is a better place for you and the Marshmallows.

In the above pictures, I think it’s mostly amazing that no one’s pinching/hitting/violently squeezing anyone else and/or (therefore) crying. Which again is testament to Libby’s skill.

In the pictures on her page, I note several things, not in any order:

    1) I love the paint colors on your house. I’ve always meant to mention that and now I have.

    2) I especially dig the picture of them standing around that green pillar (which seems to match Rainer’s shoes?), also walking down Abbey Road (it’s cool how Xander and Aodán have their arms folded, and the two little ones have their jackets open—a weird unplanned symmetry?) but maybe most of all one with you in it, to which I won’t link (but thanks Raven for letting me peek!) but you’re in the background, kinda—ah, it’s too hard to describe. But I like it.

    3) The Marshmallows would be a very different band from the Paul Reveres, so I take Xander’s unstated objections seriously. But in fact precisely *because* of their super-fluffy childlike metrosexual/emo name, I predict the Marshmallows could wind up being the sneak millennial college-girl hit of 2012-2016. Bigger than the Decemberists EVER WERE. And you and Raven could retire early in an Italian villa.

Lucky you! No surprise that these (and those) are really awesome photos. Your family is beautiful (and big!). Need more pics of you, though. ;)

What beautiful boys. I just adore these photos – all of them. You must have some *fun* at your house.
